Customer Testimonials

Patrick McConnell (New Zealand)
My order arrived today and I am extremely pleased with it! Not only was it fast, courteous service, but the signature seal carving is beautiful, and I am very happy to have it. This was a great value, and I'm glad I chose your service out of the several I found online.

I just received the two scrolls I ordered. WOW! They look fantastic!

They are wonderful - very professional. All silk, size made to order. The calligraphy is very nice (I don't know much, ok virtually nothing about shodo) From my very untrained eye the calligraphy is great. I would - and am - highly recommending anyone who wants a scroll for their dojo to get one. The price is more than reasonable as well.

Take care,
Chuck Phillips

I just received my great new menjo (brushed martial arts certificate) which was done very professionally. It looks great. I can't wait to add my personal touches and create my new rank certificates.

Thanks again,
Jim Copeland

Discover the Traditional Art of Chinese Poetry

The word ‘poetry’ is derived from the Greek word ‘poesies’, which means ‘to make’. Poetry is a creation of man; hence, it has derived its name from this Greek word. China is famous for its cultural heritage and traditional Chinese poetry. This country has seen more than 20 dynasties of which the Tang dynasty witnessed a large number of featured authors. Traditionally, most of the poetries were rhymed. China is not only known for its poetry, it is also famous for classical Chinese texts written by famous philosophers like Confucius and Tao. Some of the famous poets of the Tang dynasty were Han Yu, Liu Zongyuan, Ouyang Xiu, Su Zhe, Su Shi, Su Xun, Wang Anshi and Zeng Gong.

Traditional Chinese poetry is divided into poetry and prose. It may seem complex for the modern generation since the techniques that are used may not be known easily. In this article, we shall throw light on the techniques and structure used in classic Chinese poems. Poetry is of different types like lyrical, narrative and dramatic. The techniques used for writing include free verse, pentameter, rhyme and versification. In ancient China, versification was used for writing poems.

The versification principle uses metrical practice in poetry. Metrical practice refers to the use of meter in a poem. Poetic meter may be different according to the origins of a poem. Sometimes, the meter depends on the stress created on a word while at other times it may focus on the number of syllables used in the poem. A poetic form may be achieved in different ways. Skillful poets will structure their meter and line length and also deviate from the same to create an effect in the mind of the readers.

Traditional Chinese poetry has different structures and forms. There are several genres in a poem like narrative poetry, epic poetry, dramatic poetry, satirical, elegy, verse fable and prose poetry. Poetic structure and form may be used interchangeably as they are more or less the same.
